Dig rivers, send waterfalls tumbling
A bucket of water, a hollow, a step to dig: shape your ponds, canals and waterfalls, then soak the water back up with a sponge.

To get a river flowing, dig its bed and empty a bucket of water into it. The water spreads into the free space, finds the gaps you leave it and tumbles down as a waterfall wherever the ground drops.
Fill a pond
Start with a closed hollow. Pour your bucket into the middle: the water spreads to the edges and stops against the earth or stone. Your first pond is ready!

The water you pour becomes a source. Around it, the surface drops gently as it spreads. A solid block stops it in its tracks, and a hole underneath makes it fall.
Open a canal
Take out a block on the edge of the pond and the water slips through the gap. Dig a channel and it follows. Change one edge at a time to see which opening sends it where.
Then try a second hollow, a little lower, at the end of the canal. The water runs from one to the other and fills the pool below.
Send a waterfall tumbling
When your channel reaches the edge of a step, the water drops to the level below before spreading out again. A curtain of water marks the fall, the surface tilts gently towards the edge, and foam appears where the water hits the bottom.
The sea and the rivers in your world never overflow: a waterfall that reaches them stops at their surface. Pour your torrent into the sea and it will not rise by a single block.
Take your water back
Changed your mind? Remove the source with the bucket or the sponge. The water it was feeding drains away with it, and the ground is dry again. While you work, keep a way to reach the source and the edges of your pool.
