Getting started in Cabane: build your first house

To start a house in Cabane, choose creative mode if you want to place blocks straight away. In survival, you first need to gather materials and craft objects. Both modes let you build in the same block world; the difference becomes clear as soon as you open your bag.

Choose your game mode

Creative mode gives you access to the blocks in the catalogue and lets you fly. Use it to try a house plan, move a window or compare several roofs without going back for more wood.

In survival, your bag contains what you have collected. Recipes show which ingredients you have and which are missing. Start with a small building: you can extend a room after bringing back more materials.

Craft a workbench in survival

The first recipes are made by hand:

• 2 wood make 4 planks, to start the walls or floor.
• 4 wood make 1 workbench, to place beside the building site.
• Near the workbench, 3 wood and 2 fibres make 1 wooden axe.

Stay close to the workbench to access its recipes. If an ingredient appears in red in your bag, you do not have enough of it. The building and crafting page also shows campfire recipes and the available tools.

Leave an entrance and room inside

Place the outline of the floor first, then a few walls, leaving an opening for the door. The preview shows where the next block will go. Rotate doors and furniture before placing them; check that there is still a passage between the table, bed and entrance.

Wait until the main furniture is in place before closing the roof. This lets you see the whole room while arranging it. The first Cabane devblog entry shows the same house opened up, then viewed from the path.

Set out for more materials

Wood is useful for your first buildings. Caves and ore veins then provide stone and minerals. Place a light near the house so you can find the entrance after dark.
