A new world for every game

Roam plains, forests and villages
Each game starts with a random seed that shapes the land: terraced plains, rivers, beaches and snow-capped mountains. Eight kinds of tree grow there, from willows by the water to firs up high; the lantern tree, rare everywhere, hangs with paper lanterns.
Villages of three to six houses gather around a well. Their chests are not empty.

Swim out to the reef
Below the surface, the sea floor changes with depth. The shallows are rippled sand and stepped sandstone. Coral reefs grow in warm water, with kelp forests and arched ruins. Further down, domed caves glow with violet crystals and amber pods.
Press Shift to dive and Space to swim back up; in survival, keep an eye on your air. Eight sea creatures live down there, from the Bullot crawling over the sand to the Mâche-Marée in the abyss. The Royal abyss armour lets you swim as fast as you walk.

Take the train
A railway runs right around the world. It goes through tunnels under the hills and over viaducts above the water, and stops at stations built near villages. Three stretches are broken: replace their twisted rails to complete the loop.
The locomotive is crafted at the workbench from 6 iron ingots, 2 copper ingots, 4 coal and 4 wood. Press E to drive it. You can build on a flat wagon just like anywhere else, and a train that runs into you carries you off standing on its wagon.

Get the fairground running again
Every world has its own fairground, well away from the starting point, and it has seen better days: missing paving stones, faded stalls, a carousel that no longer turns. Break these old pieces and they give you new ones. The rusty big wheel is repaired together, by bringing it 24 planks, 10 iron ingots, 6 copper ingots, 8 glass, 6 electric lamps and 6 cloth. Once fixed, it turns and lights up; press E to ride in a gondola.
At the hot dog stand, wheat, a carrot and a tomato make a hot dog. Now and then Grelot, the clown hamster, wanders by and sells a map of the fair for 20 coins.

Dig down to the rare ores
Below your feet lie caves and sometimes lakes of lava. Coal and copper are easy to find. Iron, gold and sapphire require deeper digging with a stronger pickaxe. Amethyst only occurs at high altitudes. The minimap shows your height relative to the sea, and the catalogue tells you at what height to look for each ore.
Fossil rock hides bones: enough to assemble five skeletons at the workbench, from the giant snail to the dragon. In the top-down view, the rock above your head is hidden so your character stays in sight.

Head home before nightfall
A day lasts ten minutes. Windows light up in the evening. At night, hostile creatures emerge from the dark, but never near a light you have placed: a lantern by the door keeps the entrance quiet.
Some nights a star falls, and a column of light shows where to pick it up. The music follows the time and place: morning, night, the caves, the shore and home each have their own tune.

Change your point of view
Look at the world from above, or press C to change view until you see it through your character’s eyes. To plan your first building project, follow the guide to building your first house.
